Student Initiatives
If you don’t just want to hear about AI, computer science, and digitalization but actually get hands-on, you’ll find a vibrant community at the University of Bayreuth. Students organize talks, labs, and competitions, build prototypes, and connect faculties across the university. Getting started often doesn’t require extensive prior knowledge—what matters is curiosity, teamwork, and a hands-on mindset.
Bayreuth AI Association
The AI university group for all disciplines: collaborative learning, short keynote speeches, and, above all, hands-on exchange on projects and applications (from prompting to small ML demos). Open welcoming culture: from beginners to advanced learners, everyone is invited to participate.
b{u}ilt – Bayreuth Initiative for Legal Tech e.V.
Interdisciplinary association at the intersection of law and technology: b{u}ilt organizes webinars, workshops, and excursions on legal innovation, runs the Legal Tech Open Classroom (LTOC) for practical tool skills, and implements its own projects (including quiz/research games). Programming is not a must; also expressly open to students of computer science and business administration. Entry possible via events or direct membership.
Elefant Racing e.V. (Formula Student Bayreuth)
The Formula Student Bayreuth Team develops an electric single-seater racing car every year and competes in international competitions (including Hockenheim). The team was founded in 2004, has been competing in the electric class since 2010, and deliberately works on an interdisciplinary basis (engineering, economics, media, and computer science courses). In addition to vehicle construction, there are projects relating to data, testing, management, and, in some cases, autonomous/driverless development.
