Guest lecture "Generative AI from a Legal Perspective"
Dr. Andreas Sesing-Wagenpfeil from Helmut Schmidt University of the Bundeswehr Hamburg will give a lecture titled "Generative AI from a Legal Perspective: Copyright, Data Protection and Obligations under the AI Act" as part of the Lecture Series on AI in Science and Society on July 4, 2025, from 14:15 to 15:45 in room H27 (GW II).
Abstract: Is artificially generated content protected by Copyright Law, and does the training and/or use of such systems infringe copyrights of third parties? Is there a ‘right to be forgotten’ or a ‘right to correction’ if the output of generative AI contains personal information? Which regulatory boundaries will be in force from August 2, 2025, dealing with ‘general purpose AI’ (GPAI)? This lecture will give an overview about (at least) these questions in the field of Generative AI and will elaborate further on related issues in the field of Copyright Law, Data Protection Law and the forthcoming European Union’s AI Act.
