Dr. Sascha Benjamin Fink from the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg will give a talk as part of the Philosophy Research Forum on May 12, 2026, from 4:15 to 5:45 p.m. in S 72 (NW II) on the topic “AI Engendered Epistemic Disabilities.”

Abstract: Some interaction with AI leads us astray, from AI hallucinations to misplaced trust in bots. Most of these epistemic risks can be easily amended by further, more virtuous interactions with these technologies, more evidence, or added inquiry. Here, however, I argue for a more pernicious impact: AI engendered epistemic disabilities. These are long lasting impacts on epistemic capabilities of some agents. I differentiate these from the current debate surrounding deskilling/reskilling and illustrate it with a concrete example: AI-generated children’s literature..
